Thomas
the Tank Engine and friends keep children's imagination
chugging along!
Thomas
the Tank Engine is more than fifty years old. He originated in
England in 1945 when The Reverend W. Awdry wrote the first
book in the Railway Series. Since then a generation of
children have grown to love the cheeky engine and friends on
the Island of Sodor. Thomas the Tank Engine and friends grew
out of the author’s love of the railroad and his pleasure in
telling stories to his children. They first appeared to the
public in the form of children’s books but rapidly turned
into a regular television show. Children love the colorful
little engine and get to know him and his friends very well.
Thomas the Tank Engine and friends appeals to the younger aged
children during pre school and their first few elementary
years of study.
Like
many storybook characters meant to appeal to very young
children, Thomas the Tank Engine and friends endeavors to help
children learn their first lessons in life and social behavior
in a fun and interesting way. As they struggle with one small
problem or another in the course of the stories, they are
usually projecting a lesson that the children can use in the
course of their day.
Thomas
the Tank Engine and friends have become much more than simply
books. You can find them on television, in movies and in a
huge assortment of children’s toys. They are a lovable group
of characters that children easily take to heart. Just hearing
the theme music on the TV can cause children to come running.
