you take a baby photo, sometimes they don't turn out quite the
way you planned, like that washed out look you sometimes get
from using too much light. Or, we forget the importance of the

When
outdoors, it is better to take a baby photo in the shade. Use
a flash to lighten the harsh shadows of direct sunlight. The
prettiest time to photograph outdoors is during the early
morning and two hours before dusk.
Clothing
choices are important when taking a baby photo. The colors
that tend to photograph the best include bright blues, sky
blues and reds. Solid colors or small print tend to photograph
better than busy fabrics, which may take the attention away
from baby. Make sure the clothing fits well. While
something around the collar area or shoulders photographs
well, avoid overpowering baby with too many frills. If
the outfit is fancy, the background should be kept simple. The
shoes and socks, if any, should match and the hair should be
kept neat and simple. Long sleeves tend to be more
flattering in photographs than short sleeves.
If
your planning to enter your baby photo in a contest, make sure
the picture you enter looks good on a page. Make sure it is
not too small, not too dark. There are many programs available
that let you crop your picture and generally make it look
better. If you have scanned a photograph, make sure that you
crop the image to just include the photograph and not all the
white background.
