Baby quilt: Endless ideas and incredible prices
A
baby quilt comes in many different sizes. So you will need to
decide how you want your baby quilt used before you purchase
or make your own. We'll discuss this more below.

One
question to think about is how you'd like the baby quilt to be
used. A thin,
flat quilt that seems rugged may get toted around, along with
all that other baby paraphernalia, and used to cover baby in
the car, in the stroller, or wherever. A larger, fluffy quilt
will be more likely to end up in baby's bed. A quilt might
even turn out to be a play area on the floor for a baby who's
not yet mobile.
The
size of the block or pattern you're using can determine, in
part, the size of the baby quilt you're making. Does it work
better square, or rectangular? When trying to determine what
size border looks best it's easier to think about it when your
done with the rest of the quilt.
When
you are piecing triangles, you're sure to have bias edges to
sew together. They like to stretch, so you have to be
ultra-careful not to pull on them when pinning them together
or sewing. Put one pin where each seam is supposed to meet
(perpendicular to the direction you are sewing) and don't
remove it until you are nearly--but not quite--sewing over it.
Button
tufting is becoming a trendy type of quilt embellishment.
Buttons are sewn on a quilt top as a trim. These can
hide a less than perfect join in blocks. Lately there have
been buttons showing up on everything from quilts to teddy
bears. This can be quite dangerous for a baby, so it's best to
check your baby quilt over carefully.
