Convertible
Baby Cribs And Crib Safety Tips
Convertible
baby cribs function like traditional cribs for newborns and
then as the child grows older and larger the base of the crib
can be dropped to keep the top rails a safe distance above the
top of the mattress. When the child is tall enough and old
enough for a conventional toddler bed the sides of convertible
baby cribs can be dropped to form a toddler or day bed.
Safety
Tips:
Some convertible baby cribs are really toddler beds with side
rails added almost as an afterthought. When deciding on which
one to buy keep the following crib safety tips in mind. The
gap between the vertical bars should be 2-3/8 inches or less.
The distance measured from the top of the crib mattress to the
top of the side rails in their highest positions should be 26
inches or greater.
As
soon as the distance measured from the top of the crib
mattress in its lowest position, to the top of the side rails
in their highest positions is less than ¾ of your child’s
height the crib can no longer effectively contain your baby.
It may be safer to convert it to a toddler bed at this time
and make sure you buy a good quality mattress that fits the
crib properly.
Purchasing
convertible baby cribs could be the most economical baby bed
choice for most people but it does take a bit more organizing,
monitoring and measuring than simply buying a crib and
replacing it with a toddler bed later on.
